As climate change accelerates, compound events—co-occurring or consecutive hazards—are becoming more frequent, amplifying disaster impacts through cascading effects. However, traditional single-hazard assessments often fail to capture these complexities.
Our latest study, published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, introduces a comprehensive asset-level multi-hazard modelling framework, developed within the EU-funded Horizon Europe project ICARIA.
Initial tests in ICARIA case study regions demonstrate how this framework can enhance multi-hazard scenario planning and inform more resilient disaster risk reduction strategies.
