CLIMAAX Deliverable Release: Climate Risk Assessment in Socially Vulnerable Communities of Aigaleo

Published by Dimitra Panou on

We are proud to share the first major deliverable from the CLIMAAX – Clisthenes project: “Climate Risk Assessment in the Socially Vulnerable Communities of Aigaleo.” This comprehensive assessment, developed in collaboration with the Municipality of Egaleo, lays the foundation for targeted and inclusive climate adaptation strategies

The assessment identifies key climate hazards—primarily urban heatwaves and wildfires—and highlights vulnerability hotspots such as Eleonas, neighborhoods near Aigaleo Grove, and dense residential areas by Kifissos Avenue. By integrating GIS data, local climate station records, and stakeholder insights with advanced CLIMAAX workflows (EuroHEAT and FWI), the study offers a detailed picture of risks, vulnerabilities, and local adaptive capacities.

Significant preparatory work included training 20 municipal staff members and early identification of vulnerable social groups and areas, despite some data delays affecting socio-economic resolution. Upcoming participatory workshops will validate these findings and address critical issues like energy poverty, community risk perceptions, and the resilience of public services.

This deliverable is a vital step towards refining Aigaleo’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) and developing a community-driven adaptation strategy. It embodies our commitment to evidence-based, inclusive climate resilience planning that empowers local communities.
