This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=horizoneurope&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7164281356980633600\"><\/a>&nbsp;initiative aims to address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=waterscarcity&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7164281356980633600\">water scarcity<\/a> by integrating Alternative Water Resources (AWR) into water management across four diverse European demo locations, marking a crucial step towards circular and climate-resilient futures amidst Europe&#8217;s escalating drought challenges. The project utilizes &nbsp;innovative approaches like rainwater harvesting, water reclamation, advanced seawater and brackish water desalination, and aquifer storage and reuse (ASR) to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Amplify rainwaterharvesting to meet the estimated future demand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transform reclaimed water into a strategic asset for agriculture and industrial use, easing the pressure on freshwater resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advance desalination with innovative, low-energy consumption technologies for environmental compatibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Utilize ASR technology to secure water for dry spells, protecting groundwater bodies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our hands-on research in North Holland, Kalundborg, Syros, and Costa Brava is providing insights to integrate AWR within strategic water management, aligning with EU&#8217;s regulatory frameworks under the European Green Deal.<br><br>In collaboration with water utilities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/pwn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PWN<\/a> in the Netherlands, KCR in Denmark, and <a href=\"https:\/\/deyasyrou.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DEYAS<\/a> in Greece, as well as with the support from our other project partners &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/kwr-water-research-institute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KWR Water Research Institute<\/a> in the Netherlands, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/eurecat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eurecat &#8211; Technology Centre<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icra.cat\/index.php?lang=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICRA<\/a> in Spain, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/national-technical-university-of-athens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Technical University of Athens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/adelphi.de\/en\">Adelphi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/kompetenzzentrum-wasser-berlin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/iclei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICLEI<\/a> and our own C-EREL team &#8211; we&#8217;re aiming to bridge the gap between research and industry, contributing to technology transfer in AWR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Ioannis Zarikos represented NCSR \u201cDemokritos\u201d&nbsp; at the kick-off meeting of RECREATE, which&nbsp; took place in Manresa, Spain, on the 13th and 14th of February.
