The event brought together nearly <strong>30 participants<\/strong> from Europe and beyond, including representatives of public health agencies, climate science, urban planning and finance. The session provided a valuable platform to explore how <strong>data-driven, inclusive and innovative approaches<\/strong> can help cities mitigate the impacts of rising urban heat and build resilience for the most vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion highlighted the urgent challenge of <strong>urban overheating<\/strong>, which disproportionately affects vulnerable populations and exacerbates energy poverty, public health risks and social inequalities. Speakers emphasised the importance of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High-resolution environmental and socio-economic data<\/strong> to better capture local impacts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nature-based solutions and reflective infrastructure<\/strong> as effective pathways for adaptation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Citizen engagement and co-design<\/strong> to ensure that resilience strategies are inclusive and socially just.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Climate finance mechanisms<\/strong> to support fair access to adaptation measures, particularly in disadvantaged areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/climate-adapt4eosc.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CA4EOSC-website-news-3-300x169.png\" alt=\"\"><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Contribution \u2013 Use Case 1 (Greece)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Thanasis Sfetsos<\/strong>, Research Director at <strong>NCSR \u201cDemokritos\u201d<\/strong> and Coordinator of <strong>Climate-Adapt4EOSC<\/strong>, presented the project\u2019s <strong>Use Case 1: Aigaleo \u2013 Digital Twins for Just Climate Urban Resilience Services (Just-CURS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This innovative pilot aims to:<br>\u2714\ufe0f Develop a <strong>Just Climate Resilience Indicator Framework<\/strong> based on high-resolution data<br>\u2714\ufe0f Conduct <strong>urban climate vulnerability and biometeorological assessments<\/strong> at very high spatial resolution<br>\u2714\ufe0f Build a <strong>Digital Urban Climate Twin<\/strong> to simulate \u201cwhat-if\u201d adaptation scenarios<br>\u2714\ufe0f Act as a <strong>living lab<\/strong>, integrating citizen feedback, socio-economic data, and FAIR data principles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot in Aigaleo demonstrates how a <strong>digital twin<\/strong> can become a powerful decision-support tool for municipalities, enabling them to co-design targeted responses to heat stress, energy poverty and climate inequality.
